Idrija has always been considered an important cradle of lacemaking knowledge, from where the skill of designing and making lace works of art spread to the wider world. In addition to traditional knowledge, new approaches and innovative products are being developed in Idrija today, which place lace in modern trends in fashion and arts and crafts. The geographical indication "Idrijska čipka" guarantees the quality of Idrija lace from a specific area. The art of Idrija lace has been recognized for its universal value with the joint entry of the "Lace making in Slovenia" unit on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity..
THE BEE
In Idrija, mining, beekeeping and lacemaking have always been connected over the centuries. It is assumed that the art of lacemaking came to Idrija with foreign miners, who often engaged in beekeeping for relaxation.
The bee on the greeting card can be used as a brooch.
The pattern was custom drawn by Tina Koder Gajzar for the Idrija Tourist Board.
The lace was made by Milena Kalan Frančeškin.
It is made of cotton thread.
